Let’s begin with some basics. We can start by rating the appearance of these reels. It can be said that the look will not catch fish, this is quite true. However, the aesthetics of the reel is all about your taste. Abu Garcia’s Design team does a great job with all of their reels as far as looks are concerned. There are a variety of colors and styles to choose from in all of the price ranges. I would give them five out of five stars for appearance. If you aim to impress the guys down at the fishing hole, these reels will allow you to do that. Now I realize that an angler doesn’t simply care about how a reel looks. The important thing is performance.
I imagine you want to know how Abu Garcia Reels are going to perform. We will go ahead and start with some bait cast reels. The BCX Series reels range from $50.00 to $65.00. These reels all offer four ball bearings. These are stainless steel, which means they are going to last. Since they are polished, the glide smoothly and are quite durable. These are designed to bring in some good sized fish. These reels offer the new Anti-Distortion Spool feature. This means that the reel is not going to torque with a heavy fish on the line. These BCX reels are smooth on the cast, and on the reel. The line simply glides with minimal effort. This series gets five of five stars.
Next we will look at the Abu Garcia Low profile reels. The new Revo Toro series is available. These reels are available for $265.00 to $280.00. This lower profile offers for greater comfort. When I say comfort, I am talking great luxury here. The Revo has an unmatched 22 pound drag, leaving it at the top of its class. These reels are resistant to corrosion with a cast aluminum alloy shell. These reels are in it for the long haul my friends. These new reels will hold some serious line, with a monofilament rated at 14 pounds, you are going to easily get 200 yards. The Revo gets five out of five stars.
In the $125.00 to $150.00 price range are the Soron STX Series reels. These spinning reels offer eleven bearings, made of non-corrosive material. They have an unmatched smoothness to them, on the cast and the reel in. The gears in these reels are made of brass, and that makes them very durable and long lasting. We are not talking about cheap brass fittings here either; we are talking about some serious strength. These Abu Garcia reels can even withstand the harshest saltwater conditions out there. The cast on this reel is truly amazing. This series has left me awestruck. I would give the Soron six of five stars. Abu Garcia has truly gone above and beyond the call of duty here.
Last but not least are the closed spincast reels. The classic Abumatic has returned with a fresh look and better quality than ever before. I know that it is hard to imagine how this got better, but I can assure you it has. The new spincast reels have been designed to house super lines, and are totally enclosed to protect it. These reels are super smooth with titanium nitride composing the rotor, front cone, and line guide. Not only are these reels the best in heavy fishing, they are the most durable. You can take these reels to the coast or to the lake. Rest assured that you will not go wrong here. The Abumatic gets five of five stars.
