My son has started to have a hobby for fishing and by the looks of it he just has some cheapy gear. Thank you for sharing this I will have to get him one so he can have a better time at fishing!
Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Reels – First Hand Information
Abu Garcia has made quality reels for many years now. I never used them much as a kid but I recently used them exclusively while on my last fishing trip. Until I got first hand information on the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels, I really did not know how good they were.
I was on a cat fishing trip up in the Red River in Canada. The river is know for having huge channel catfish which weigh over 30 pounds. It takes a tough reel to handle this and that is where I saw the how strong it really was. This is where I got first hand information on the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur reels, since I quickly hooked onto a monster fish my first day there.

We were drifting in the river when it felt like I hooked into a car on the bottom. However, the car was really a huge catfish. The fish was taking lots of line off the reel, but it came off smooth and the Abu Garcia was holding its own against the fish. I kept pumping the fish and trying to bring him closer, but he just kept taking more line and moving further away.
We finally had to start up the motor and get closer to the fish. The drag on the reel was still smooth and I was able to really gain some ground on him now. I saw the catfish get closer to the boat but my arm was really getting tired. The Abu Garcia had to do much of the work now as I could barely lift my arm up. It has been about 20 minutes that the fish was on and I was just hoping for it to be over soon. The guide grabbed the net as the fish was in site.
Soon after the net was grabbed the fish might of saw it and took about 20 yards of line off of my fishing reel. It was really hard for me to stay focused and I thought for sure I was going to lose the fish. This was the biggest fish of my life and I did not want to see it get off.
I kept cranking my Abu Garcia reel and eventually the fish was in sight again. This time I kept the pressure on and hoped the line would hold. The powerful gears on the reel allowed me to get the fish inch by inch closer to the boat. Finally, the fish was netted by the guide and I yelled with joy. The fish weighed in at 32 pounds and we quickly released him after a few pictures. I want to be able to catch him next year when he is even bigger.
Overall, it took first hand information on the Abu Garcia Reels for me to understand how good they were. I wish I would have found out sooner as they withstood my entire fishing trip without a problem. I was more than satisfied with the reels.
